Brazil - IP
BRAZIL - IP is a collaborative effort of Brazilian universities to create a distributed network of integrated circuit (IC) design centers capable of delivering OCP-IP compliant Intellectual Property (IP cores). The mission of the Brazil IP effort is twofold. In the short run, it seeks to increase the country's level of expertise in designing world-class IC by exposing the participating university students to real-world design practices and evaluation. In the long-run, it will help bring about the conditions necessary to establish local Design Houses DH capable of competing in the international IP market.
Since 2007 students, faculty and researchers at Universidade Federal de Itajubá have been using integrated circuit development tools from CADENCE.
Undergraduate (Electronics Engineering Course):
CADENCE design tools are used in laboratory classes to develop basic digital cells. Among other activities the students learn and use CADENCE tools for schematic capture, electrical simulations, layout, DRC, ERC and LVS.

CADENCE design tools are used in laboratory classes to develop analog and digital basic building blocks. Among other activities the students learn and use CADENCE tools for Verilog simulations and synthesis, schematic capture, electrical simulations, layout, DRC, ERC and LVS.

Main Research Projects:
Research project conducted by graduated and undergraduate (MsC and PhD) to develop a low cost implantable device. The circuit is intended for the measurement of biomedical data. The device shall be powered up by inductive coupling, so that the circuit must operate in low voltage and low power conditions. All the design phases are conducted using CADENCE tools.
Integrated EEG System:
Research project conducted by graduated and undergraduate (MsC and PhD) to develop an Electroencephalogram system. The system is comprised of programmable filtering and amplification, AD conversion and transmission blocks. The system intended to be placed directly over the electrodes thus forming an active elecrode, in order to reduce external interference. The data can be transmitted wireless to a central station. All the design phases are conducted using CADENCE tools.
